Common Meth Addiction Symptoms

Methamphetamine, also known as meth or crystal meth, is a manufactured drug that has become popular and very addictive. Maybe you or someone you love is using this drug. Meth has many addiction symptoms that you should be aware of.

This drug causes damage to the body, and it eats away at the brain, causing memory loss and loss of fine motor skills. If you think that someone you are close to is a meth addict, it is important to be brave enough to get help that he/she needs.

Here are the signs that someone you care about may be a meth addict:

Weight Loss

This is the most common symptom of meth addiction. Meth addicts will have no appetite. It’s common for them to lose a great deal of weight in a very short period of time.

Eye Twitching

It is not unusual for meth addicts to experience different physical responses to taking meth. Eye twitching is the most common body reaction. The eyes of meth addicts will twitch several times every minute, and this is something that they cannot control until they have successfully detoxified from this drug.

Mood Change

While there are many different causes for mood changes, they can indicate a meth addiction. High doses of meth can cause permanent depression for some addicts.

Repetitious Behavior

This is another meth addiction symptom. Meth addicts will often want to take things apart and put them back together, exercise excessively, or find repetitive projects to engage in. They will not be aware of their surroundings when they are dealing with these behaviors.

Hyperactivity

This symptom can be hard to detect if the meth addict was hyperactive before they used drugs. Under the influence of this drug, they can become hyper and can’t stop moving. They can become very dangerous to the people around them, or to themselves.

Dilated Pupils

This is symptoms is usually experienced by the addict for about 26 hours after they take drugs. Most addicts usually wear sunglasses while their pupils are dilated to hide their eyes from others.

Body Odor

People who are meth addicts will frequently exude a harsh odor, and they will often sweat a lot. This odor may remind you of cat urine. Meth laboratories often have the same smell, which comes from the chemicals in the drugs they are taking.

Paranoia

Meth addicts usually becomes paranoid without any reason. They think everyone is out to get them. They become very sheltered and they don’t want to go out in public. They will often keep to themselves and go long periods of time before they want to communicate with anyone else.

Itchy Skin

This is one of the more uncomfortable symptoms of meth addiction. Meth addicts tend to have very dry and itchy skin. They will want to scratch their skin all the time, all over their body. The itching can become so bad that they will often scratch until their skin is broken and blood has been drawn.

Meth Mouth

Last but not the least, the mouths of meth addicts suffer from tooth decay and other mouth problems. This will cause the teeth of the addict to blacken and fall out. They will also have very red and sore gums. This condition will can contribute to weight loss, since it is much harder and painful for them to eat or drink anything.
